Executive Board Meeting
Longy Faculty Union (LFU) Wednesday, August 25, 2010
Present: Clay Hoener, Deborah Beers (Debbie), Erik Entwistle, Jonathan Cohler, Shizue Sano, AFT Field Rep., Diane Frey
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m.
Minutes for the Executive Board meeting of July 27, 2010, were approved as amended.
Shizue Sano gave the Treasurer's report.
She also discussed the ongoing process of filing for Chapter status with the AFT.
Clay Hoener reported from the Negotiating Committee. No further counterproposals have been received from the administration. Meetings with an official from the NLRB have taken place regarding the charges that were recently filed with the NLRB by the AFT. It was reported that a letter has also been sent to the President of Bard College with information about the charges. Other potential violations were discussed.
This writer reported from the Communications Committee that a number of faculty profiles are in the works for future newsletters. Other possible future articles were discussed as well. Information about phone calls received during virtual "office hours" was reported. Different possibilities for internal and external communications were discussed. It was also reported that Jennifer Doe from Jobs With Justice is interested in continuing to support the efforts of the LFU.
A potluck party is being planned at the home of an LFU Executive Board member for all members of the Collective Bargaining Unit on the evening of September 21. Diane will be in touch with a faculty member who is interested in planning a party for those who have been cut from the faculty through the "realignment" process.
Other meetings were planned as follows:
September 14, 10:15-11:30 a.m. General Meeting
September 27, 12:00-2:00 p.m., Executive Board
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Deborah Yardley Beers
LFU Secretary
