- About Us
After eighteen months of negotiation, we are happy to announce that we have a new contract ready for ratification.
We have set up the following schedule for informational meetings and the vote:
Informational Meeting 1: Wednesday, Dec.9 3:30-5:00, Wolfinsohn Room.
Informational Meeting 2: Tuesday, Dec.15, 9:00-10:30, Room 12
Ratification Vote: Thursday, Dec. 17, 3:00-6:00, Wolfinsohn Room.
Please note that only members of the LFU are eligible to vote for ratification. (Click here for LFU by-laws) However, as the Collective Bargaining Agreement covers everyone in the Collective Bargaining Unit, any member of the faculty who has opted to pay the agency fee in lieu of joining the Union is welcome to come to the informational meetings to learn more about the contract.
The meetings are important to help navigate you through the details of the contract, and to answer any questions you may have. There are many provisions of our 2011 CBA which have remained unchanged, such as the grievance process, benefits calculation, the 'just cause' provision and the ratio table which determines rate of pay for a variety of teaching activities. However, there are new provisions for level adjustments, reappointment criteria and stipend use. For more, please information see the summary below:
Key Provisions from successor Collective Bargaining Agreement
1. Minimum 2% wage increases each year of the contract
2. Base rate level ‘bumps’ for several CBU members
3. Opportunity to seek additional individual wage increases directly from Longy
4. Limitations on use of flat-fee stipends in lieu of base-rate pay
5. Transparent assignment of benefit-unit value to stipends
6. Establishment of reappointment criteria for three-year faculty appointments
7. Extended five-year appointments by additional two, three, or four years based on year of hire
8. Extended new hire “probationary” appointments to a total of four years, with ‘just cause’ protection
9. Inclusion of hiring procedure in the CBA, and requirement that all regular faculty positions be posted for at least four weeks on the Longy website
10. Cap on visiting appointments to 10% of total Longy faculty
11. Two-year recall period for laid-off faculty
Our AFT liaison, Michael Regan, will be there for both meetings as well as the ratification vote, to help guide us through the process. An electronic version of the agreement will be posted soon at this space.
We value your support. LFU Members, please make an extra effort to vote on Dec. 17!
In solidarity,
LFU Executive Board and CBA Negotiation Team
