Executive Board Meeting
Longy Faculty Union (LFU)
January 31, 2011
Present: Liz Anker, Deborah Beers (Debbie), Jonathan Cohler, Shizue Sano, Diane Frey
Jonathan called the meeting to order at 12:15 because Liz’s arrival was delayed.
Minutes from the January 21 Executive Board meeting were presented and approved.
Jonathan gave an update on the NLRB and on negotiations. The last negotiating meeting before the hearing has been held, and the hearing is scheduled to begin February 7.
A discussion was held on making our communications and operations more efficient.
Shizue presented the Treasurer’s Report. She will be working with our legal counsel, Haidee Morris, on the application for chapter status with AFT. A motion was made and a vote was passed to have our fiscal year coincide with the School’s, that is, to begin July 1 each year. The fiscal year information is needed for the filing for chapter status. It was also agreed that the start of Board members’ terms of office should coincide with the beginning of a fiscal year. After the Constitution was reviewed, it was agreed that we need to amend our Constitution in order to make this change in timing of Board members’ terms of office. A membership meeting will be held sometime in the future when we can propose amending the Constitution in this way. It was agreed that the election date for Board members should remain in May, even though new Board members will take office on July 1 of the election years.
A discussion was held on the difference between Special Meetings and Membership Meetings.
Jonathan reported on updating the website with minutes of previous meetings and a link to the article put out by AFT about the LFU.
There was discussion about increasing membership involvement.
This writer reported on the Communications Committee. The phone tree update is in progress. The next issues of the LFU News were discussed. External Communications, including our Facebook page and Twitter messages were briefly discussed.
Plans for the recital for Francie were discussed.
The following future meetings dates were set:
Friday, February 18, 10:00-12:00 noon, Executive Board Meeting, Room TBA
Monday March 7, Executive Board Meeting, 12:00 noon-2:00 p.m., Room TBA
The meeting adjourned a 2:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Deborah Yardley Beers
LFU Secretary
